At 09AM MDT from the National Hurricane Center in Miami...

HECTOR NOW MOVING SLOWLY NORTHWARD...

Wednesday, August 15, 2012 8:45 AM PM MDT Tropical Storm Hector clings to tropical storm status as it moves well to the southwest of Baja. Tropical Storm Hector is about 490 miles southwest of Cabo San Lucas. Hector is forecast to remain a tropical storm today, but late today will cross the 26°C thermo cline and begin to dissipate. TS Hector sped up a little this morning from the dead crawl overnight. Hector is forecast to become a tropical depression late this evening.

Tropical Storm Hector is currently located near 17.8N 115.2W and is moving 360° at 4kts. Central barometric pressure is estimated at 1002Mb and winds are 35 to 45kts, making the system just barely a tropical storm. Tropical storm force winds extend out as much as 70 miles from the center of the storm and 12ft seas extend out as much as 180 miles.

This storm is well past the threat window to Baja. No further updates will be made to this page until historical data is available.
