Sunday, July 15, 2012 8:35 PM Tropical Storm Emilia is dissipating in the central Pacific and poses no threat to landfall. The storm is expected to dissipate ov er the cooler waters in the next 24-48hrs.

Once a very poserful Major Hurricane, Emilia reach Category 4, the strongest hurricane of the 2012 season so far. Emilia was also the third Major Hurricane of 2012. Usually the Eastern Pacific develops an average of 3.2 Major Hurricanes per year. The 2011 season produced a record tieing 6 Major Hurricanes, a feat only duplicated in two other years in the last 55 years.

Emilia had little or no effect on Baja weather and never made landfall.

Emilia is forecast to continue to strengthen o ver the next 24-36hrs, then cross the 26°C thermo cline on Wednesday and begin to weaken without ever posing any threat to land. Emilia will have little affect on Baja weather other than some increased surf along south to southwest facing beaches.

Hurricane Emilia is currently located near 12.6N 109.9W and is moving 290° at 10kts. Central barometric pressure is estimated at 977Mb and winds are 85kts with gusts to 105kts. Hurricane Emilia is currently rated as a Category 2 Hurricane but will likely be upgraded to a Major Hurricane in the next forecast.
