AT 03PM FROM THE NATIONAL HURRICANE CENTER...
NTERESTS ALONG THE COAST OF SOUTHERN AND SOUTHWESTERN MEXICO SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THE DEPRESSION.
Tuesday, 08/16/2011 4:50 PM MDT Tropical Depression 7E has formed along the southern coast of Mexico and is forecast to become Tropical Storm Greg in the next 12hrs and strengthen to hurricane force late in the week as it moves WNW into the Pacific. Early storm forecasts have the greatest amount of potential error as the system builds strength and direction, but initial forecasts indicate that the storm should become a moderate hurricane and move west harmlessly into the Pacific well south of the Socorro Islands.
This system should also have little effect on Baja weather.
Tropical Depression 7E is currently located near 13.8N 99.6W and the system is moving 290° at 11kts. Central barometric pressure is estimated 1006Mb and winds are 30kts with gusts to 40kts. TD7E is already on the verge of becoming a tropical storm.
Tropical Depression 7E is unlikely to dramtically affect Baja weather at this time. We will continue to monitor the development of 7E but will only post updates to this page every 9AM or when the status of the storm or its potential threat to Baja changes.
