Historical Data |
Tropical Storm ESTELLE (06-10 AUG) |
At 9AM MDT 08/10/10 Tropical Depression Estelle was located near 17.3N 112.9W and is moving 90° at 2kts. Central barometric pressure is estimated at 1005Mb and winds are 25kts with gusts to 30kts. Estelle has dissipated and no further updates will be posted to this page.
Surface Temperatures of more than 26°C are required to sustain a tropical cyclone and Estelle will remain over warm water through the weekend. But cooler waters exist to the north and west of the storms current location, so landfall of a tropical cyclone in Baja this early in the season is not likely. It is possible that Baja will see some much needed rain by mid next week as the storm begins to dissipate.
Estelle was reduced to a tropical depression on the morning of 8/09/10. Estelle was upgraded to Tropical Storm status at 3PM PDT on 08/06 from Tropical Depression 7E. Tropical Depression 7E was identified at 9PM on the evening of 08/05. TD7E was the first tropical cyclone since TD6E formed on July 16th and Estelle is the first named system (tropical storm strength or greater) since Category 3 Hurricane Darby on June 28th. In a normal season we would have had 2 more named systems for by the end of the first week of August.
