DOUGLAS CONTINUES TO WEAKEN
03PM MDT 07/03/08 Douglas has weakened to a tropical depression over night and forecast to continue to dissipate as it moves over sub 26°C water. Douglas is delivering showers and occasional periods of moderate rain to the SW tip of the peninsula.
Rain has been reported in Los Cabos and as far north as Todos Santos. The threat of rain looms in La Paz at this hour. Thunderstorms and the threat of rain exist as for north as Loreto, from moisture being drawn west from the mainland. Baja may yet see some precipitation from this system as it breaks apart to our SW and the remaining moisture travels NE.
TD Douglas' current position is near 20.7N 110.6W and movement is 305° at 7kts. Current central barometric pressures is estimated at 1004Mb and winds are 30kts with gusts to 40kts. Tropical Depression Douglas is forecast to move more directly west in the next 24-36hrs and be a remnant Low by the end of the weekend.
The humidity and increased cloud cover are evident in Baja Sur as far north as Consitucion and rain has spread north toward Todos Santos.
This system could provide some clouds and even chance of precipitation on Friday, when Tropical Storm Douglas is forecast to be 200 miles south by southwest of Cabo San Lucas as a diminishing tropical cyclone.
