Information on Tropical Storm Miriam
09AM MDT 09/19/06 Tropical Storm Miriam
has dissipated over the cooler waters west of Baja Sur. The storm center is
about 260 miles west of Cabo San Lucas and does not present any further
threat to Baja. No further updates will be posted to this page until
historical data is available.
This system is now forecast to turn to the NW
and miss Baja Sur entirely. This system was born over 28°C waters,
unlike John and Lane which were spawned over 29° and 30°C waters, and will
soon move into 27°C waters. This should preclude any dramatic
intensification and the storm is currently forecast to only achieve Tropical
Storm status.
Baja Sur is not currently with the range of
error for the forecast track of this storm. It is now forecast to pass well
west of Baja as it turns north and heads out into the Pacific.
This system formed near 17.5N 114.4W, about 472
miles SW of Cabo San Lucas. The system is moving to the NE and is expected
to turn north before reaching Baja Sur. The system became a Tropical Storm
on 09/16 in the 3PM MDT release from the NHC.
