Information on Hurricane Lane
09/07/06 - All watches and Warning shave been
canceled for Hurricane Lane which is now dissipating over central Mexico.
No further updates will be posted to this page until historical data is
available.
12PM
MDT 09/16/06 Preliminary data indicates that Hurricane Lane came ashore
north of Mazatlan as a Category 3 Hurricane at 1:15 this afternoon. The
storm's 3PM MDT reported position was 24.4N 107.2W and is moving
350°at 09kts. The current central barometric pressure is estimated at
957Mb and winds are 105kts with gusts to 130kts. Lane should begin to
diminish quickly now that it is over land.
Weather conditions in Cabo are partly to mostly cloudy
with light winds and the threat of occasional rain. In La Paz it is partly
sunny and cooler. Winds are light under 10kts.
Hurricane Lane is being shadowed by a smaller system,
Tropical Storm Miriam which formed
in the morning hours of 09/16 and is projected to move NE toward Baja
Sur. TS Miriam is expected to move slowly NE then turn NW and move out
into colder waters.
TD13E formed very near the location that spawn Hurricane
John. The storm has tracked along the coast and is forecast to move northward
into the Sea of Cortez. TD13E was upgraded to Tropical Storm Lane at 12AM
MDT 09/14 some 647 miles ESE of Cabo San Lucas, Lane became a Category
1 Hurricane on 09/15 in the 3PM release from the NHC when the storm was
about 280 miles SE of Cabo San Lucas. At 5PM on the 15th Lane strengthened
quickly to Category 2. On the morning of 09/16 the storm strengthened
to a category 3 storm as it neared landfall on the mainland Mexico side.
At 1:15PM MDT on 09/16 Lane made landfall as a Category 3 Hurricane just
north of Mazatlan.
