on Hurricane Ileana
Hurricane Ileana is dissipating some 460 miles
west of Cabo San Lucas and has moved past the threat window to Baja Sur.

11AM 08/25/06 Hurricane Ileana is now diminished
to a Category 1 Hurricane of some 460 miles west of Cabo San Lucas. The
system is currently located near 21.6N 116.9W and is moving 300° at 04kts.
The central barometric pressure is estimated at 83mb and winds are 70kts
with gusts to 80kts. Hurricane Ileana is forecast move west then turn
WSW and diminish to a tropical depression without making landfall over
the next couple of days.
Tropical Depression 10E form on the morning
of 08/21, about 325 miles SSW of Acapulco. Over +30°C water, the system
strengthened quickly to Tropical Storm status by the 3PM MDT broadcast
from the NHC. The storm continued WNW over +29°C water through Tuesday
afternoon, when it was upgraded to hurricane status in the 2PM NHC release..
On Tuesday, 08/23, the storm became a Category 3 storm as it passed SW
of the Socorro Islands about 365 miles SSW of Cabo San Lucas. The storm
did not achieve Category 4 status that was forecast.
