Information on Hurricane Hector 2006.
Hurricane Hector is well beyond the threat
window for Baja Sur. Hector is headed off into the Pacific, where it is
expected to dissipate next week without making landfall. The
graphics and text warnings below will be automatically updated on issue from
the National Hurricane Center.
10AM MDT 08/17/06 Hector has been upgraded to Hurricane 1 status as it
churns harmlessly off into the Pacific. Located near 14.7N 121.1W and is
moving 290° at 11kts. Central Barometric pressure is estimated at 979 and
winds are 75kts with gusts to 90kts.
Hector formed from tropical depression 9E on Aug 15, near 13.0N 114.1W. At
the point of storm formation 9E was already too far west to be of much
concern to Baja Sur. Moving quickly WNW at 9-11kts, the storm was upgraded
to a Tropical Storm in the early morning hours of 8/16. Hurricane hector is
expected to continue moving WNW into the Pacific until it crosses the 26C
thermo cline on Monday and should dissipate into a Tropical Depression by
Tuesday. Hector is not expected to make landfall anywhere.
