Hurricane Carlotta Eastern Pacific 2006

Information on Hurricane Carlotta 2006.

NOAA color image of Tropical Storm Daniel
Hurricane Carlotta  -  NOAA Color Image 7/14/06
July 12-17, 2006 • Max Wind Speed 70kts
Achieved Category 1 Hurricane

Hurricane Carlotta formed and followed closely on the heels of Hurricane Bud. Carlotta brought the seasonal hurricane track a little closer to Baja, but still at significant distance. The only effects felt from Carlotta was increased surf in Baja Sur.

Hurricane Carlotta was upgraded to Hurricane Status in the 3AM MDT 7/13 forecast from the National Hurricane Center. The tropical depression that spawned Carlotta was first mentioned in the 8PM forecast on 7/11 and was then upgraded to a Tropical Storm at 3AM MDT on 7/12. This storm like Hurricane Bud, developed more quickly than popular SHIPS model forecasts had anticipated and as of the 9AM forecasts on 7/13 forecasters are placing more emphasis on GL and other computer forecasting models.

It is unlikely that this storm will pose any threat to Baja or make landfall in Mexico. Hurricane Carlotta is expected to spin off quietly into the central Pacific and dissipate over the next 120hrs.
