May 27-30, 2006 • Max Wind Speed 40kts
Achieved Tropical Storm Status

12PM 05/30/06 FINAL UPDATE - Aletta has been downgraded to a tropical depression and despite remaining over warm water, is forecast to dissipate over the next 72-96hrs. No further updates will be posted on this page until historical data is available.

At 12PM MDT the storm was located about 215 miles SSE of Zihuatanejo, Mexico. The storms current position is 16.0N 103.5W and movement 270° at 5kts. Maximum sustained winds are 30kts and the central barometric pressure is estimated at 1005Mb.

Tropical storm warnings have been canceled for all parts of the SW Mexican coast.  Earlier. tropical storm warnings and watches had been posted for the SW coast of Mexico from Punta Maldonado westward to Zihuatanejo. Rain and high winds will continue to diminish on shore as the storm moves west. Aletta has also weakened slightly. The storm is expected to diminish significantly over the next 24 hrs as it continues it's westward movement. The storm is being affected by shear winds and a ridge of dry air.

Tropical Depression One E became the first tropical depression of the 2006 season at 9AM MDT on May 27. In the NHC release 3 hours later the storm was upgraded, making it the first tropical storm of the season as well. Forming about 150 miles SSW of Acapulco, the storm was originally forecast to move more quickly and closer to the SW coast of Mexico. Tropical storm watches and warnings were posted for parts of the SW coast of Mexico from Acapulco to Zihuatanejo. Progress of the storm stalled late on the 27th and on May 29, the storm began moving westward away from land and lost it's tropical storm intensity.

It is unlikely that this storm will pose any threat to Baja Sur this early in the season.
