Information on Tropical Storm Eugene 2005.
Tropical storm Eugene was the fifth named storm
of the Eastern Pacific Hurricane Season. Eugene is now dissipating and is
not expected to pose any further threat to Baja.
The tropical front that formed the storm became
of note in the 4AM alerts from the National Hurricane Center on July 18th.
By 10AM the same day, Eugene had achieve tropical storm status. Then located
at 15.1N 105.6W the storm had 35kt winds and a estimated
central barometric pressure of 1000Mb and was moving 285° at 12kts.
At 9AM on July 19th a Tropical Storm watch was
issued for the southern most end of the Baja peninsula from Agua Blanca on
the west coast to Buena Vista on the east coast. The watch remained in
effect through 10PM that evening.
By 10AM on July 19th Eugene had achieved it's
maximum strength with sustained wind speeds of 60kts and a central
barometric pressure of 989Mb. Located at 19.0N 108.1W it
turned more northward and was
moving 315° at 13kts. Six hours later Eugene already showed signs of
weakening and winds had dropped to 50kts.
On crossing the 26°C thermo cline Eugene began
is dissipate rapidly. By 10AM on July 20, Tropical storm Eugene has
dissipated into high level clouds and rain over the Pacific Ocean. No
reformation of the storm is expected.
