Information on Tropical Storm Beatriz

08:30PM MDT 23/06 Beatriz has reached colder waters and has been downgraded to a tropical depression. The storm is currently located 400 SSW of Cabo San Lucas. At 08:30PM the storm was located at 17.2N 111.7W and was moving 280° at 09kts. Estimated barometric pressure is 1005Mb with winds from 35kts gusting to 45kts. It is anticipated that Beatriz will be a tropical depression by the next report period.

Beatriz will crossed the 26°C SST thermo cline on 23/06, into cooler, dryer and more stable air and will dissipate rapidly. The forecasted course of Beatriz will move west, well south of Baja California by about 400 miles. It should not present any threat to the Baja peninsula.

Beatriz became a Tropical Storm at 9AM MDT on June 22. The storm was then located near 14.8N 105.6W. Central barometric pressure was estimated at 1005Mb and winds were sustained at 35kts with gusts to 45kts.

Hurricanes can build in water warmer than 26°C. The graphic above shows that colder water stands between Baja and the storm, protecting us at this time of year. Beatriz crossed the 26° thermo cline and begin to dissipate on 06/23/05.
