Hurricane Darby Eastern Pacific July 26 - August 1, 2004

Tropical Storm Darby churning in the Pacific 1175 miles WSW of Cabo San Lucas

Darby reached hurricane strength on the morning of 7/28 as it moved through warm waters of the Pacific. Wind speeds Wednesday morning were estimated at 70 with gusts to 90kts. Darby moved into cooler waters and experienced additional shear later 7/28 and is expected to weaken over the following 48 hrs.

On 7/29 Darby was classified a category 2 hurricane with 90 to 105kt winds.

Darby achieved named storm status west of the usual danger area for Baja and did not pose any threat to the Baja Peninsula.

Darby was reclassified as a tropical depression August 1, and dissipated in the Pacific east of Hawaii.
