Eastern Pacific Hurricane & Tropical Storm Information

BajaInsider Tropical Cyclone Information

Thursday, 08/07/2008 11:04 AM MDT Today will be a warm one, throughout the Baja peninsula. The nicest place to be will be the Pacific Side of the peninsula, particularly in Baja California, where temps will nudge toward the 80°F mark. Clouds and the threat of afternoon thunderstorms will migrate west from the mainland (yellow arrow) while a strong cell of thunderstorms moves west from Cabo Corrientes further south (white arrow) This area of disturbed weather may influence the southern most portions of the peninsula late today and tomorrow. The humidity has soared and with it the overnight low temps aren't that low anymore, overnight in La Paz it dropped to 83°F and it forecast to easily crest the century mark later today. Remember to drink plenty of water with any associated outdoor activities. Winds in the Sea are forecast to be light and variable, under 10kts through the forecast period, mostly from the SW.

Down south, Tropical Storm Hernan (magenta arrow) is slowly building as it moves off into the Pacific. Hernan is forecast to become a hurricane for a brief period on Friday before moving into cooler waters. It is unlikely that Hernan will affect Baja weather. We have but one tropical wave on our map, moving west and another about to enter our basin in the next 24hrs. Additional cyclonic formation is not expected in the next 24hrs.

Note: At 8:42PM Wednesday 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck about 41 miles NNE of Loreto. There are no reports of damage. Click here for details
