Villas del Oro
Villas de
Oro is a collection of luxury condominiums and town homes built on
32 acres owned by developer Gerry Burchard along the 27 hole, Jack
Nicklaus signature golf course within the 900-acre resort community of
Palmilla, home of “The One & Only Palmilla” in Los Cabos, México. I
had the pleasure of meeting with the developer the other day and then
I was shown around the existing phases that have been completed and
mostly sold out as well as the newest buildings of Phase 3 under
construction, by the sales manager Debra (DJ) Endy-Habib.
One
thing I can say about this development is that it is being done right
and is not just a lot of promises which seems to be too common here in
Mexico these days. There are so many developments that are being
created but not all are really ready to start and many are missing
their completion dates by many months or years in some cases. That is
not the case with Villas de Oro. They have and will continue to
deliver a quality product on time and for a limited time your purchase
includes a golf membership as well as a complimentary membership to
the new Palmilla Tennis Club at Villas de Oro coming in 2007.

Burchard further explained “With my financial
background, I understand the importance of people’s money and their
investments. “I’m right here on site making sure everything is
completed and meeting the high standards set throughout Palmilla. This
is a real dream come true, not only for me but for those who purchase
and live here. It’s a thrill for me to see people realize their
dreams.
Villas de Oro consists of three phases built along holes No.1 and No.9
of the 27-hole championship golf course. Phase I and II are sold out.
Phase III is under construction and offers both two and three bedroom
floor plans ranging in size from 2,000 to 3,000 square feet air
conditioned interior space with 1200 square foot terraces and a single
car garage. Full ownership including the club memberships is very
reasonably priced at $725,000 up to $875,000 |

Gerry
Burchard, originally from San Francisco California, has been a
financial advisor and asset manager for than 25 years. Burchard was
first introduced to Baja when a client asked for his help in acquiring
land in Todos Santos, north of Cabo San Lucas. Burchard, the founder
and CEO of Round Hill Securities, a $3 billion asset management firm
based in northern California, flew down to Los Cabos to take a look.
He liked the growth potential of southern Baja so much that he
purchased property for himself.
Soon, Baja became his favorite vacation spot and he quickly discovered
and fell in love with the stately elegance of the hotel Palmilla. On
his honeymoon in Cabo, Burchard and his wife were enjoying lunch at
the hotel, overlooking the Sea of Cortez when he realized that one day
his dream to become a developer of a unique community would begin at
Palmilla. In 1999, he began buying ocean front property. This was when
he was introduced to Palmilla’s Jack Nicklaus golf course development
and Villas de Oro. He knew immediately this was the opportunity to
bring his ideas to life.
“My vision is to create a destination that owners will consider as
their primary residence rather than the second home” says Burchard,
“You’ll enjoy all the amenities you expect in a place you call home
with security, amenities and comfortable living - while still
maintaining al the warmth and character of Mexico.”
“I took a look at the completed phase One and I liked the product; I
thought, this is where I would live,” says Burchard “this is the right
product at the right price. Villas de Oro is at the hub of everything
– golf, the ocean, the world- class One & Only Palmilla Hotel, and the
new village center and it’s all within walking distance. It just makes
good sense for the buyer and developer.” In July of 2000 Burchard
bought the Villas de Oro development.

Special features include ocean and fairway views, spacious floor
plans, 10’ ceilings, granite counter tops, Jacuzzi tubs, marble tile
floors, stainless steel appliances, gas cook top, central air
conditioning and more. In addition, there is a guard –gated entrance
to enhance the community’s feel of exclusivity. Palm tree-lined
streets, sidewalks, fountains and waterfalls that also create a lush
and comfortable environment conducive to strolls throughout the
neighborhood.
With
the acquisition of an additional 25 acres within Palmilla, Burchard
plans to expand his project to include four new floor pans and various
residential products such as villas, homes, and custom lots – a total
of approximately 150 homes. This phase of the project development will
be instrumental in creating the “village” environment with many
neighborhood amenities, including the recreation facility with tennis
courts, workout center and swimming pool. “We believe Villas de Oro
represents the best golf resort living in Los Cabos,” says Burchard. “
As I took the tour with DJ, I was very impressed with what they had
already achieved and the quality of what they were building at this
time. I have learned a lot about construction myself and know that
here in Mexico you do no always get what you pay for unfortunately.
The attention to detail and the use of quality materials as well as
having an experienced contractor and crew is assuring them that they
can deliver what they promise.
After speaking with Gerry and then more with DJ, I must agree that if
what you are looking for is a quality development, golf and a secure
investment in the Los Cabos area you really do want to take a look at
Villas de Oro in Palmilla.
