Fall has arrived in Baja California Sur and the excitement level here at CostaBaja Resort and Marina is beginning to build as well. Many of those who keep their boats here in the safety of Marina CostaBaja are returning along with the resort condo owners and the fall increase in guests at the Fiesta Inn. Around Pueblo Marinero the restaurants and shops are not only welcoming locals and those of us that weather here year-round, but an increasing number of guests who come out to CostaBaja to enjoy the unique ambiance and beautiful sunsets.
The CostaBaja Beach Club facilities are nearing completion. Crews are now putting the finishing touches on the Beach Club which promises home owners a world class way to wiggle your toes in the sand and enjoy a frosty beverage. The pool is filled, the spa is operational and craftsmen are busy assembling the wooden bars and floors for the restaurants. When open the Beach Club will provide one of the best locations in all La Paz to watch the sunset across the Bay while the lights of downtown La Paz twinkle to the south. The Beach Club is scheduled to be completed this month and open in November.
Construction
is to begin shortly on the VistaMar community of the CostaBaja Resort.
These luxurious 2 and 3 bedroom residences are located on the bluffs
overlooking the Sea with a choice of views which include; Sea, Marina
and the golf course. A second new community located on the golf course
and overlooking the sea is scheduled for release to sales this month.

Through the summer months the promotions staff of CostaBaja organized several events. One of the stand-out happenings was a demonstration of traditional Mexican dance, some of it indigenous to Baja Sur. The group was the most entertaining I had opportunity to enjoy yet, either here or in the States. In addition to it being a very intimate venue, there was the addition of skits’ to the dancing and the performers really seemed to be enjoying themselves, despite the summer heat.
The first part of October, CostaBaja Resort
was the backdrop to the
La Paz Gold Cup Black and Blue Marlin Tournament. The hugely
successful event attracted 80 boats and the 1st place winner walked away
with $100,000 pesos. Sponsored by a consortium of La Paz developers,
including CostaBaja, the event benefited the Balandra La Paz Rotary
charity which sponsors a prosthetic clinic here in Baja Sur. The awards
banquet was held on the beach next to the soon to be completed Beach
Club and was attended by over 1,000 people . Kudos go to all that were
involved in organizing the event. The tournament raised $40,000 for the
Charity.

Now that the weather has cooled, CostaBaja will be gearing up the events too. Soon the Dinner and a Movie on Tuesday nights will resume. The popular free event shows a current DVD release every Tuesday night on the ‘big screen’ near the fountain in the center of Pueblo Marinero.
Sure
to be one of the big events in the upcoming weeks will be the ground
breaking ceremony for the first golf course in La Paz. The
Gary Player Design Golf Course is to begin construction this year
and will incorporate the beautiful natural landscape of Punta Prieta.
Overlooking the Bahia de La Paz and the entire Ensenada de La Paz the
course will prove to be both challenging and beautiful when it opens in
2009.
Also this fall Costa Baja Resort and Marina will host the finishing point for the FOOBAR Powerboat Rally from Southern California and the end of the Governor's Cup Rally which runs from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz. The Governor's Cup Race is an extension of the Baja HaHa sailboat race from San Diego to Los Cabos.
A series of nature trails into the hills behind CostaBaja Resort and
Marina will also begin this fall. Validating the vision of the
developers, native Baja Indians selected the areas in and around the
CostaBaja property to call home centuries ago. With the entire region to
choose from these natives saw the value of the swimable white sand
beaches, natural protection from the weather and generally beautiful
location as a great place to call home. Parque Reforma, the developers,
has made it a priority to conserve any evidence of the cultural heritage
and natural history of the region which may turn up in the construction
process. Subcontractors have been given impetus to identify and save
these historical treasures rather than push through them for the sake of
completing the task on schedule.
I
first viewed the beach here at CostaBaja Resort and Marina nearly 7
years ago when I arrived in La Paz after sailing from San Diego. The
beautiful beach was here but the rest was still a dream in the
developer’s mind. Today, I walk the beach daily and enjoy a swim in the
Sea of Cortez or a beautiful sunset over the bay. I often meet tourists
or people who are considering an investment in La Paz real estate, and
they ask me how I see the future of an investment in CostaBaja.
I usually chuckle, and advise them that I’m not a real estate futures analyst, but there are some very obvious indicators of a bright future. CostaBaja is happening. For years we have heard a golf course from another project or two is ‘just around the corner’. Other new marinas have been ‘underway’ since my arrival and yet another marina/shop complex never seemed to bloom. The CostaBaja Resort is making all of these things real – Today. Additionally, the first great resort of caliber in a region has a quality about it that endures through time. For example, in the 1950’s the Royal Hawaiian on Waikiki Beach sat nearly alone on the now world famous beach. Today, the original hotel seems merely an arcade in a canyon of five star resorts that have erupted around it, yet it remains the most regal resort on the beach.
CostaBaja Resort and Marina is being developed with a master plan conceived by the builder and professional resort developers. As the resort continues to develop over the next several years, each piece will compliment the facilities already available. CostaBaja also supports the vitality of the resort community by sponsoring events and activities that attract guest to the restaurants and businesses. The energy put forward to create La Paz’s first destination resort appears destine to create success and make CostaBaja a sound financial investment.
Someday soon, the Sea of Cortez will emerge as the next Mediterranean style vacation destination and La Paz will become the crown jewel as the gateway to the Sea. At the heart of the La Paz development, on a beautiful beach at the entrance to the harbor will be CostaBaja. We look forward to seeing you here soon.
