December, 2008 - It is an exciting time here at CostaBaja Resort & Marina in La Paz. The spectacular fall weather has extended well into the month of December, with temperatures in the 80°’s and low humidity. The returning ‘snowbirds’ to the resort have been able to enjoy an extended fishing and outdoor recreation season, while evening guests at the restaurants in Pueblo Marinero have only recently required a light sweater while overlooking the marina. You can check out the current weather conditions anytime with the new CostaBaja Live Weather Station 24hrs a day here on the Insider and know exactly what climate we are enjoying here in paradise.
Signs of progress on the development of CostaBaja Resort & Marina are all around, as construction crews work day and night. The VistaMar community, adjacent to the property entrance and overlooking the beautiful Ensenada de La Paz, has begun to erupt from the foundations with amazing speed. The luxury ocean view community has been very popular with real estate investors looking to become a part of this unique resort on the shores of the Sea of Cortez. The residences, in the six story building, will range from a 2,636 square feet two-bedroom plan with two and a half baths to a 4,381 square feet three-bedroom plan, plus loft penthouses with three and a half bathrooms. Palapas, wooden trellises and shade structures constructed by local craftsmen have been incorporated in the design. Each suite will have a large terraces and panoramic views. The luxury residences will including natural stone flooring throughout and granite slab kitchen counter tops and stainless steel appliances.
The 18 hole Gary Player Signature Golf Course is underway as well. Contouring of the hillside above the resort has begun, as the first Gary Player designed course in Mexico begins to take shape. I spoke with Bill, one of the construction managers of the project, at the beautiful CostaBaja Beach Club as he enjoyed his Sunday day off. He said the pros were in last week to inspect the construction and that the first hole, to be Hole 8, is already beginning to take shape and adjacent lake construction is underway. He could see that I was puzzled by his use of the word ‘lake’ in our desert environment and went on to explain that the lake will be a reservoir for the reclaimed
water which will irrigate the course. Construction of the water reclamation plant began earlier this fall and will recycle water from the City of La Paz, conserving the precious commodity and helping to keep the course ‘green’ in both meanings of the word.
Earth is being moved for the practice range and future location of the Club House, near the opposite side of the property. The Club House will have a spectacular panoramic view of the Bay of La Paz to the north, the Ensenada (harbor) of La Paz and the city to the south and overlook the entire CostaBaja Resort. The practice range will provide guests to the CostaBaja Resort their first taste of the outstanding golf experience to come, as it is scheduled to open in late 2009.
Construction of the Las Colinas community has also begun. Excavation for the golf course side community began in late November and these homes should begin to take shape in the first months of 2009. Nestled between holes 10 and 11 of the Gary Player Signature Course there are a few of these exclusive homes still available. Those savvy folks that have already made there investment in this unique community will be calling this address ‘home’ by this coming summer.
CostaBaja Resort & Marina has a core interest in creating a low impact and ‘green’ community in La Paz, the gem of the Sea of Cortez. Another aspect of this commitment is now underway, as the solar heating facility for the beautiful Beach Club begins to take shape. Much of the year here in Baja requires limited heating of the large horizonless pool on the beachfront, but in the winter months the breeze off the Sea of Cortez just yards away can require a great deal of energy to keep the pool at an enjoyable temperature. In the ongoing effort to keep the Resort both ‘green’ and efficient, the solar heating structure will collect the sun’s energy from an area nearly half as large as the surface are of the pool itself and minimize or negate the need for natural gas heating.
The final news is for the CostaBaja Resort’s tennis lovers. Two tennis courts are being built on the beach front adjacent to the Beach Club and oceanfront residence tower. The courts should be completed in late January and without a doubt offer the most spectacular view of any tennis court I have ever seen. Constructed on a diagonal to the ocean view, both players can be equally distracted by the vista of the Ensenada de La Paz just years away.
With all this activity I almost forgot to mention that the Resort is preparing for the holidays. The CostaBaja Resort staff has decorated the 16’ tall Christmas tree in the courtyard of Pueblo Marinero and the businesses along the marina walk are taking on a holiday air. So, if the northern climates are beginning to close in around you and you are looking to invest in a seasonal or year-round resort home you should come be a part of the excitement here at CostaBaja Resort and Marina in La Paz, gateway to the Sea of Cortez.
