Recipe for Thai Stir Fry  - La Paz Style

by Javier Constante
Gula Restaurant
CostaBaja Resort & Marina, La Paz

My interest in cuisine could become from various experiences. I remember my childhood at home, normally family Sundays at lunch, everybody talking about several themes, but all conversations would always end in food recipes. Then I started to participate helping my mother for those great diners, Christmas and New Year’s, it was exiting.

Once I read a book titled “The Perfume”. This book tells the story of a young man that had to quit school because of the poor income his mother earned at the time. He had to work and started with a “parfumeur” as helper and learned how to make perfumes… and the recipe is rose petals, alcohol, etc. Then being a college student, living along, far from home, necessity pushed me to the kitchen and I started to cook for me. It was nice, even thought some times I didn’t like what I cooked, but I learned.

Pueblo Marinero Local 43
La Paz, Baja California Sur
(011-52) 612-106-7001

Today, I will tell you about one of our Gula’s star main courses, “Thai stir fry vegetables”. First you need red, green and a yellow bell peppers (no seeds please), jicama, beet, carrot and celery, wash, disinfect and peel them. Then cut all of them in Juliana, you also need spaghetti, olive oil, a little white wine and ginger sauce.

Heat the oil over medium high heat. Sauté all vegetables, stir frequently until the mixture becomes very fragrant. Add a very little white wine and the ginger sauce to taste. Turn to low heat. Lastly, pour the spaghetti, mix and let the mixture simmer for about a minute. Serve immediately.

For the ginger sauce, you need peeled ginger, garlic, rice vinegar, water, soy sauce, galangal and peeled tamarind. Mix well in a processor, and then cook over medium heat until first boil and reserve.

To cook the spaghetti, just follow the instructions the package says, this way you will have the pasta “al dente”, do not over cook and
Bon appetit !!!

More about Gula...

This restaurant brings fabulous food and beautiful location together in a great place to eat in La Paz. When art becomes food...

One of the undeniably good things to come from the growth of La Paz is the emergence of some great dining establishments. Eating out is one of the things you do as part of visiting La Paz and dining at Gula should certainly be on your list.

Restaurante Gula, gluttony in English, is located at the beautiful Pueblo Marinero in Marina CostaBaja. Located about three miles from the edge of town, the complex is the newest addition to the La Paz tourist industry. The whole area makes for a beautiful place to wander before or after diner, you can even watch the sunset over the Bahia de La Paz from the beach nearby.

The restaurant itself overlooks the marina and you can see the sunset over the Bahia while you dine, in a very enjoyable outdoor setting. In the mornings the sun breaks over the hills north of La Paz and bathes the marina in a beautiful light to enjoy breakfast by. Gula has a handful of tables indoors, but a majority of their seating allows you to enjoy these wonderful vistas while you dine.
