Fishing is Taking-off in the Cerralvo Channel

06/13/07 As the temperatures start to warm up in Baja Sur, so does the fishing. The Sea of Cortez warms up much faster than the outer Pacific side and one of the places that fishing really takes off first is the Cerralvo Island area.

This morning, Carlos Rivera and avid fisherman himself and front desk manager at Hotel El Moro, was telling me that the fishing is great and that guests of their Baja Fisherman's Fleet excursions have been enjoying good catches.

"Red Snapper and Dorado are always fun to catch" said Carlos. "But this past weekend I landed one of the best marlin I had caught in years." The battle lasted quite some time, Carlos couldn't remember specifically but by the time he got the big fish in the boat he was ready to declare it a successful day at sea.

"At this time of year many of our guests are sport fishermen." Says General Manager Ricardo Curiel. "The El Moro makes a fabulous home base for your fishing adventures." Just about a 40 minute drive before the sun comes up get you to the renown fishing grounds of the Cerralvo Channel.

The El Moro is an excellent pace to return to at the end of the day. Slip into the pool and enjoy one of Sergio's famous Margaritas or Pina Coladas or unwind in the whirlpool. If not all members of your party are fishermen, the El Moro is within easy walking distance of downtown, along the newly completed Malecon Walkway.

One of the great things about June fishing is the weather. Yes, it's hot in the afternoon, but that's what makes the fish hungry as the water warms up. But it's still relatively dry and the morning temperatures are refreshing. After the sun goes down La Paz comes to life with people enjoying free concerts and activities near the Municipal Pier.

The Folks at El Moro and the Baja Fisherman's Fleet would like to invite you to join them for some great fishing.
