Melges Sailing School in Cabo San Lucas

Melges24 Racing schoolCaboSports.com has launched the Cabo Sailing School and is now offering a Melges 24 sailing and racing school here in Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The sailing school will have lessons from beginner to advanced heavy weather and racing instruction. Based in the Cabo San Lucas Marina, the sailing classes will be for 3-4 people per Melges 24 and can be either chartered privately or is open to the public for 1-4 people.

Cabo San Lucas offers very consistent days of winds in warm weather almost year round. Sailing and racing around Land’s End and northward into the Pacific allows for some truly spectacular sailing in varied winds, currents and sea states that offers challenging sailing conditions that is perfect for all levels of sailing instruction.

Request InfoStudents will be able to race in the bay of Cabo San Lucas, against the clock or if there are 2 or more boats at the same time they may be able to race against one another. This can be a great team building activity for corporations or a fun competition between pre-arranged groups such as businesses, student groups and incentive group travel.

The Melges 24 classes will be for approximately 2 hours including launching, assembly, rigging, and basic sailing, the use of spinnakers, heavy air and racing for the more advanced sailors. The classes will be held on short (100 yards) to medium long (200 yards) courses depending on winds and will be windward to leeward to cover all points of sailing.


Cabo Sailing SchoolFrank Rowden, the owner of Rowden Boats since 1989 and Yates y Casas S.A de C.V., the owner of www.CaboSports.com and La Princesa sailing charters since 1997, has been professionally racing for over 35 years. Rowden is a very experienced boat builder as well as an ex-instructor from the UK Sail Makers “Smart School” of sailing.

This is truly a unique opportunity for beginners to advanced sailors to learn from his and the other staffs’ extensive experience while warm weather sailing in Los Cabos. Classes are available in the Cabo San Lucas Marina, starting at 9am, 12 pm, 3pm and 6pm in the summer months. Classes can be arranged for 1, 3 or 5 days of classes depending on what the customer wants and the availability of boats and crew.

If you are a beginner at sailing, no worries, this is one of the best of high performance keelboats to learn in. The Melges 24 is very comfortable, easy to handle and forgiving yet it is one of the most unique one design sport boats in the world and is professionally engineered in the latest of high tech components for those that wish to experience true sailing performance; simply read as “SPEED”.

The Melges 24, one design, keelboat was conceived by Buddy (the Wizard) Melges and his sons Harry and Hans. The actual boat designing was done by Reichel & Pugh in 1992 after all of them had worked together to win the Americas’ Cup on America 3 in 1992 in San Diego, California

Melges 24’s are being sailed all over the world and have one of the largest and most active of international racing classes with over 600 boats currently racing with the majority of the class in the U.S. and then Europe and Asia as well as the Melges 24 is an Olympic sailing class.
