Exploring the Heart of the Sea of Cortez – from La Paz or Los Cabos

Cabo San Lucas Night LifeCabo San Lucas is the most popular tourist destination in Baja. Los Cabos’ active nightlife, activities, golf and resorts offer fantastic opportunities to enjoy a mainstream vacation. Now you can add a single day or multi day cruise on the fabulous Sea of Cortez aboard the Donna Jean to your Cabo vacation plans.

If you are looking for an eco-adventure for your family or a group, there is little to equal the Sea of Cortez anywhere in the world. Enjoy the beautiful islands with secluded coves and miles of unspoiled white sand beaches. The shores are lapped with the crystal blue/green water of the Sea of Cortez, where marlin, tuna and other sport fish abound. In season, whales, dolphins and sea lions are common sights and the snorkeling and diving is outstanding.

If you are a fisherman you already know of the reputation of the Sea for being one of the great sport fishing destinations in the world. The very best way to embrace the Sea of Cortez and see all the beauty and marvels that it holds is from the decks of your private charter – the motor vessel Donna Jean. The Donna Jean is a

The charter vessel Donna Jean now offers an option for Los Cabos visitors to experience the true beauty of Baja Sur and the Sea of Cortez without giving up the tourist amenities or scope of airline providers. With your day trip or multi day adventure the Donna Jean can provide ground transportation to La Paz. The exclusive 6 passenger van ride takes about two and a half hours and transports you from the tourist world of Los Cabos through the desert splendor of Baja and it’s small pueblos to the capital city of La Paz.

More below...

Charter Vessel Donna JeanThe coach trip itself will expand your Baja horizons by taking you through some of the most beautiful areas of Baja Sur, on well traveled two lane highways. If you arrange it in advance, your road trip can include a stop in Todos Santos, a quaint little pueblo on the Pacific coast that has been designated ‘Pueblo Magica’ (magic town) by the Mexican government. There you can find shops, art galleries and restaurants with a very unique perspective..

The Donna Jean is based in La Paz, gateway to the Sea of Cortez. TMap of Baja California Surhere is more of the Sea to enjoy, and it is more readily accessible than anywhere else in Baja. In less than an hour after setting sail from the Donna Jeans home port in CostaBaja Resort & Marina you are transported to another world. Tranquil coves, where you may be the only boat at anchor are lined with cactus and white dunes down to the water’s edge.

Isla Espritu Santos is located at the north end of the Bay of La Paz, less than 20 miles from the Donna Jean’s home port. The most popular anchorage on the island La Partita, was formed by a volcanic eruption more than 25 million years ago. The towering red rock cliffs and surrounding canyons can provide a wonderful place to hike ashore and see the unspoiled beauty of these protected islands. Snorkeling is spectacular amongst the rocks at the entrance to the Diver and Sea Lion at Los Islotes near La Paz, Baja California Suranchorage. If you are a fisherman, El Bajo, a seamount that comes within 30 feet of the surface just a few miles away. The fishing for marlin, dorado and red snapper is some of the best The Sea has to offer.

Another very popular snorkeling and dive site is located at the north end of the Mother and daughter kayak in the Sea of Cortez aboard the Donna Jean Chartertwo part island – Los Islotes. The small cluster of rocks barely qualifies as an island, yet is home to a year round sea lion colony which has become quite accustom to the travelers that come to explore their world. Yearling ups eagerly interact with swimmers and will play with often attempt to insight play with a tennis ball, shell or even a stolen swim fin. For scuba divers the island offers colorful and exciting dives from 30-100+ feet.

Further north, there are the islands of Isla San Francisco and San Jose. On San Francisco you might find agates on the long stretches of beach and on San Jose you can take a dingy ride deep into the island in a brackish estuary. If you are real lucky you might find some butter clams in the shallows! What you won’t find is any encroaching civilization, as these islands are also protected as treasure of the country. If you are interested in a multi day trip, you should be sure to visit these islands.

Whether you are looking for a day trip to experience a taste of the wild and beautiful Baja or seek to immerse yourselves in a dream cruise on some of the most beautiful and unspoiled waters in the world for a longer period of time, the Donna Jean can be your get-away into the magic of the Sea of Cortez.
