Uber has been operating in Mexico for five years and has extended its presence to La Paz, Baja California Sur in 2017/ Uber's arrival in the state, as always, had legal challenges limiting services, resulting in the main complaints of users, service did not include Los Cabos the most important cities for tourist travel in the state.

Reports from several local users show only a handfull of cars available. It may take some time for the service to get rolling. Several car dealers are displaying "Uber Ready" signs on new cars on their lots in La Paz and Los Cabos.

Almost a year after initiating service in La Paz - Uber announced the start of operations in Los Cabos in late September, 2018. Over the objections of the taxi drivers and companies Los Cabos, one of the most important tourist destinations in all of Mexico now has Ubder service. In the announcement of adding Los Cabos Uber is getting closer and closer to the 50 Mexican cities with their service.

Uber decided to wage the battle to enter Los Cabos, even with the problems that have been generated with taxi drivers in La Paz. Uber reported more than 10,000 requests for service in the Los Cabos area after announcing service in much of the rest of the state. Los Cabos one of the busiest tourist destinations in the country, the service request, both for local as well as foreigners, it unanswered, until now.

The Uber services that are available in Mexico are Uber X, and Uber Assist , their service focused on supporting users with limited mobility. The company's estimates suggest that more than 200 thousand inhabitants of the city will be able to access the transport service, in addition to creating around 1,400 job opportunities.

As of October 25, the Uber Mexico website does not list either La Paz or Los Cabos as service areas.

There may be some special provisions attached to Uber service unique to the state, such as it may limit use to previous Uber users with a Uber history. Safety concerns were sighted for this addition but it benefits the taxi's by barring first time local users from using Uber.

Taxis are likely to continue to oppose Uber's presence in Los Cabos, but in La Paz, where Uber has been in service almost a year, the heat of the moment already seems to have faded away.
